Repairing the Antenna Base

We’ve recently discovered that the antenna bases that come with some of our RTL-SDR units have been getting damaged during international shipping to customers. For now we’ve temporarily suspended sales of these units until we can repackage the pieces to ensure that this doesn’t happen in the future.

The damage occurs to the antenna base when something heavy is placed on top of the parcel during shipping, causing the antenna screw to be pushed into the base.

$5 Refund:

If the antenna screw was pushed in on your parcel, or some other damage occurred to the antennas, then please contact us at [email protected] with the name you used for ordering and we’ll refund the $5 cost of the antennas.

Self Repair:

Below we have a repair guide for the antenna base:

You will need a small ~2mm wide flat head screw driver.

Step 1: Carefully peel off the black sticker on the bottom of the base.

Step 2: Using the small flat head screwdriver, lever off the metal disc.

Step 3: Using the screwdriver gently push the metal screw inside the base back up outside.

2015-08-28 15.40.56Step 4: Replace the metal disc, ensuring the coax shield is pinched by it.

Step 5: Replace the black sticker.
