Yes the two antennas are a good starting point, but any outdoor antenna will of course blow them away. If you want to listen to HF frequencies then yes an upconverter is a good choice. I'd choose the Spyverter as 1) It seems to be the best on the market at the moment, and 2) It will future proof you against buying an Airspy in the future if you decide to upgrade.
