Re: Talk about other SDR products like the FunCube, HackRF, BladeRF

Funcube (and newer models such as the Dongle+ Pro) has been out of production for many years. Was part of a satellite project. IIRC, it used the same RF chip as SDRPlay, but with less or no front-end filtering, and down converted to audio baseband IQ. A newer SDRPlay RSPdx would be better. HackRF's ...

Radioberry SDR hat for the Raspberry Pi

As yet another option for SDR with a Raspberry Pi, assembled Radioberry boards are available from Aliexpress. The Radioberry is a direct sampling HF SDR that uses the same ADC/DAC as the Hermes Lite 2, plus an FPGA. It plugs onto the top of a Raspberry Pi 4's expansion connector as a Pi "hat". Photo...

Re: how good is Luowave's "USRP LW 1"?

I just checked https://www.makerfabs.com/hermes-lite-2.html and it's out of stock. Any plans to make more? Or is that it, period, and too bad for anybody who's late to buying it? My guess is that Makerfabs would like to make more. The HL2 is a successful product for them, with somewhere around 1000...

Re: rtl_fm wrong frequency

Try a higher sample rate, maybe 960000. Broadcast WFM usually requires a sample rate well above 200 kHz.

Re: Cannot get a good FM signal

It could be RF noise from the computer getting into either the SDR or the antenna feed line.

Re: Incoherent spikes in direct sampling mode.

Those could be noise spikes caused by harmonics from a nearby 100 kHz power supply or other noise generator (solar panels, LED lights, USB chargers, etc.). Try running your RTL-SDR from a portable laptop/notebook computer on a picnic table far (1000's of meters) away from the nearest buildings, sola...

Re: Wide spectrum analyzer

The TinySA spectrum analyzer goes from 100 kHz to 960 MHz, with over 300 MHz of bandwidth. Seems to be available from various vendors for between $50 to $100. https://www.tinysa.org/wiki/

Re: how good is Luowave's "USRP LW 1"?

For over $200 (USD) less, you can get a direct sampling SDR with slightly higher 76 MHz sample rate 12-bit ADC, and a much faster Gigabit ethernet connection. It's the Hermes Lite 2. Several hundred built. I have a couple. Component quality from Makerfabs seems excellent. If you want more bits for a...

Re: How to develop own software for scanning frequencies and checking for radio activity

There are several tutorials on writing programs for the RTL-SDR.
Here's one for Python, mentioned on this site:
https://www.rtl-sdr.com/developing-your ... th-python/
Google will find others.
