Re: Problem with FC0012 Tuner & librtlsdr0

I'm seeing it in 2019 under Raspbian with librtlsdr-dev (0.5.3-11) and librtlsdr0 (0.5.3-11) installed. But I also have rtl-sdr from git August 2018. It's a mismatch of versions, but the dates on the executables match the git date. I wanted librtlsdr especially because I'm writing a program using it...

Re: Long USB-cable vs long antenna-cable?

You can spend big bucks on fancy coax with N connectors and all that. The only real advantage over an rtl_tcp setup is that the coax tolerates temperature extremes better, like in a attic or outdoors. RG-6 isn't bad and its usage in TV has brought the price way down. Don't worry about the 75 vs 50 o...

Re: rtl_fm for broadcast am radio

Aside from the man page, also try
rtl-fm --help
which just triggers the usage instructions you get because it didn't understand what you were trying to do.

Re: "usb_claim_interface error" occurred

Never mind, I found it. I hadn't worked on this in a year or so so in this new version I tried to init the dongle, and that worked so I called the function that starts up my threads and wham. I had forgotten that my thread starting function starts the RF thread, which inits the dongle. So I was doin...

Re: "usb_claim_interface error" occurred

It would be useful to know where this message comes from (probably libusb). I wrote a program a year ago that uses librtlsdr, doesn't get this error. I copied the source of my dongle init routines into a new program just now, it gets the error. The old program still works (same computer), rtl_test w...

Re: What this application is coming down in the Play Store

I just found that RFAnalyzer which is $1.01 on Google Play is also on github for free. https://github.com/demantz/RFAnalyzer Grab the master.zip, there's an apk inside it. You'll need OTG and a powered USB hub but you can run an rtl2832 dongle from an Android phone. I spent $10 on an app to do that ...

Re: Which upconverter to buy???

Watch out for the oscillator frequency. I think there's one out there designed such that the output is right in the FM broadcast band. That might work sometimes but it would be a nuisance. I built the one that was in QST. I think the oscillator's 130 MHz, haven't used it in a while.

Running rtl_fm from a parameterized script?

I'm trying to run this, so I can pass in the frequency as the first argument to the script. But when I run it the script gets clobbered by an IQ recording. I tried escaping the $ with an \ and the same thing happens. My script name was just "am", the same as the modulation parameter, that might be a...
