Receiving and decoding AMDAR and ADS-B Mode S Meteorological data
Hi, I have been reading about receiving upper air temperature, wind speed and direction from aircrafts using AMDAR and ADS-B data. http://bibliotheek.knmi.nl/knmipubTR/TR336.pdf https://www.wmo.int/pages/prog/www/GOS/ABO/AMDAR/ This is a good explanation of the way temperature and wind are measured ...

Hi,
Thank you guys. Your support is great. I am out of home for the next week. Once I am back I will do another attempt.

Re: Very weak singnal from NOAA with QFH anthenna
Ok. I resoldered everything, peeling back the insulation of the cables and making sure there are no shorts. The signal is a bit better, but still far from good. Best SNR 24 with the satellite directly over my head.

This is my antenna: https://i.ibb.co/qD8P9ft/20181129-210812.jpg This is the wiring. I know it looks messy, but I just want it to work once. If it does I will make a final precise model. https://i.ibb.co/cCCLHDf/20181129-210832.jpg This is the SMA adapter. https://i.ibb.co/Pm8Vs84/20181129-211046.jpg

Re: Very weak singnal from NOAA with QFH anthenna
Ok. I made a new antenna according to this 3d design. I wanted more space to work, because the previous central pipe was too small. It was definetely working better for signtals and I could pick up NOAA 18 for more than 15 minutes, but the SNR was between 12-14 at best. The image was again mostly no...

Re: Very weak singnal from NOAA with QFH anthenna
Hi, Why am I using Coax if I only need the braid to receive the signal? My coax is with very thin braid and I don't think it is the best option. Is it not better if I use copper or aluminum rods or wire straight away? Which one is better from the 2 metals? Should I use RG-58 cable instead of normal ...

Re: Very weak singnal from NOAA with QFH anthenna
I was wondering about the shielding effect of the braid, but I thought I am not able to understand the mechanism. Now it all comes into place. So I should connect the braid of the long and short loop on one and to the braid and to the middle of the coax that goes into the dongle. I will re-solder an...

Very weak singnal from NOAA with QFH anthenna
Hi, I have been trying for some time to get images from the NOAA sattelites using this: https://www.teske.net.br/lucas/2016/01/qfh-antenna-and-my-first-reception-of-noaa/ My setup is as following: A Laptop with Obritron , SDR sharp and WHToimg. A USB SDR - R820T2 based An FM Band Filter A QFH antenn...
