High frequency can certainly travel very far on a point to point basis. As for Satellites; yes you can absolutely view those. There's pager data around ~930Mhz. Above 1Ghz and you're getting into the area where signals at that frequency just don't travel very far and most things end up being point to point or some type of local area deal. In the US, I believe there are plans for public safety to use ~4.9Ghz. I've seen this...

What band are you trying to access? I assume VHF? If so, you're going to have a difficult time trying to use a hardware filter to block the taxi cab signal and still receive the desired signals. A band reject filter will block out the taxi signal and probably attenuate all signals in +/- 20-40mhz of...
