Re: Feasibility of a Passive Weather Radar

I knew that the WSRs used RF in the upper microwave range. That's why I said "relatively low frequencies". The main thing that was pointed by out rtlsdrblog was that only those frequencies really reflect rain, and I guess that's kinda what I was asking. I couldn't seem to find anything on frequencie...

Feasibility of a Passive Weather Radar

Just a quick question, Would it be possible to use the passive radar capabilities to make a weather radar? I mean, the only reason I can't see it working is because of the relatively low frequencies you would need to work at. But if returns can he picked up from say, hail or very heavy rain, I could...

Strange Beacon type Signal at 453.349 MHz

So a while ago I had stumbled across this signal and cant seem to find a reference as to what it is. I live in central PA. There are signals on RadioReference at 453.35 however this is not the center frequency of this signal. The signal is noticeably "fuzzier" at .35 as opposed to .349. It is the sa...

Re: Enabling noise source stops processing

It is now running on the tinkerboard.

Whats weird is that the new supply Im using can only handle 2.4A(same rating as from before) per port but it runs fine now. Maybe it was just a quality type issue.

Anyways, thanks for the suggestion!

Re: semi-passive radar

I would say your main limitation would be the TX power. 500mW wont really be enough to get any range out of it. The main point for using a passive radar, aleast recreationally, is because it allows you to use another transmitter running at >100W, legally. Its worth a shot, but I wouldnt expect more ...

Enabling noise source stops processing

Sorry to be of bother again. The ksdr is now on the tinkerboard and atleast now it is connecting consistently. However I cant sync it because every time I turn on the noise source, the program stops reading samples. The update rate stops updating and will not start again unless I restart the demo so...

Re: Trouble connecting the RPi3 to the KSDR

The max current it can supply is 10 Amps. I even try slightly overvolting to 5.5v to get rid of the chance of voltage drop over the cable which was only about 10cm. I'v gotten a tinkerboard in the mail. Im just happy the sdr works thats all I care about, its just a matter of messing around a bit to ...

Re: Trouble connecting the RPi3 to the KSDR

Not entirely sure what the problem is now, I had hooked up a screen and there was a power issue which i somewhat fixed (more on that later). All lights are on in the ksdr but still cant get anything out of the demo software directly on the OS (not the web interface). rtl_test does show all 4 tuners ...

Re: Trouble connecting the RPi3 to the KSDR

Got Ubuntu installed, and had successfully gotten connected (well it locks up the entire OS after about 5 minutes though that's not the ksdrs fault obviously) so it is a problem with the Pi. Likely power related as mentioned before. I'll hook a screen up to the pi and see whats going on. Hopefully i...

Re: Trouble connecting the RPi3 to the KSDR

I had tried turning 3 tuners off and that does seem to stop it from browning out, however I still can't get anything to show up for update rate. I'm going to be off for the weekend and will hook a screen up to the pi and see if anything is going to come up with rtl-test. If nothing else I will try w...
