Re: New production or home made antenna 0-30 MHz for indoor

I am usually not one to put a product down but in the case of an antenna such as the Well brook loop or any so called wide band loop I would be more than cautious of the sails hype and look at the $20 worth of components that make up a loop of this nature. Right off the magnetic loop works on a diff...

Re: RTL Dongle - Stock Antenna

If it is a small 6 inch or so whip. It is all but worthless. It will receive anything that is strong enough that your dongle can but the efficiency is very poor below about 500 MHZ and not that good above. If it is say a 3 foot telescopic whip. Then it is much better but still not a very good antenn...

Re: Narrow Band Low Noise SDR-RTL Amplifier

I am going to do the best I can with this one as it is not as strait forward as it might seem. Yes you are losing considerable signal with a 50 meter run of coax. There are several questions that must be answered. No. 1 is. What type of coax are you using? It most likely can be improved but this pos...

Re: Newbee here

A discone is probably the best choice for general work. It is broad band but later you will most likely get into more band specific antennas. For a beginner you cannot go wrong with a discone. Just don’t but don’t buy into the advertising hype and spend a lot on the antenna, Another good choice for ...

Re: LNA

I have and use several of the LNAs that you have listed. You must put some power on the 2 pads marked Vcc this is the +. Ground this is the minus. You will find the LNA you have to be a very good one. It will start to amplify at just under 4 Vdc and increase gain as voltage increases to around 12 Vd...

Re: How do see the 27mhz frequency?

Your wording would indicate that English might not be your first language. Please correct and forgive me if I am wrong. I think that you are saying that you are unable to get any reception of the 27 MHZ band. With the way you have worded it. I am not sure if you have tried anything as of yet. I thin...

What a diference a mag loop can make!

I am sure that this is nothing new to a lot of you but I was truly impressed. I am an old ham, 30+ years. I have built many antennas over the years and have a 20 meter dipole a 40 meter dipole, a 2meter/440 collinear and a discone up at this time so I have something to compare to. They are all home ...

Re: rtl to ham? not as far as you think!

Yes, a lot of us in the ham community are very interested in RTL-SDR. As Ken mentioned above. The potential as test equipment alone if unfolding into something very useful. I hope no one minds. I have posted links to the videos on this page. They are excellent! The new direct sampling dongle is a su...

Re: Is wire length critical in QFH antenna?

5 cm will not mater at all. 5 meters at that frequency depending on coax type might make a Db but with a quality coax it would be less than 1. Don’t break the bank for coax. Unless you are going over 50 or more meters. RG6 is a very good choice. Don’t worry about it being 72 ohm. It won’t hurt a thi...
