Re: Antenna on the roof or in the attic ?

From the specs your discone has a coverage from 30-1300 MHz, which means you normally receive only within Radio Line of Sight (RLOS). Therefore the higher your antenna the better. But it depends on your locations height, if your antenna in the attic/roof is above other obstacles if the height differ...

Re: Airspy (R2) user here ---looking for pages with HW-/SW-i

I plan to use the Airspy in the L-Band, S-Band when I have/can decide on a downconverter. For 0 Hz to 30 MHz I have built an up-converter (IE500, LO-in of the diode ring mixer to be able to receive down to 0 Hz). My questions are in part to the Airspy design and in part to the R820T2. 1. What is the...

Airspy (R2) user here ---looking for pages with HW-/SW-info

Are here any Airspy user here? After searching/reading for a few weeks, I decided against the SDRplay and ordered an Airspy R2 this morning. I found most pages repeat the same information on Hardware and Software, but do not provide much information. Which pages did you find? My reason for choosing ...

Combing RTL-SDR-Dongle +14Bit AD 2 LAN (e.g STEMLab125-14) ?

I was wondering if it could make sense to combine a RTL-SDR V3 Dongle using the R820T2 and it's 1PPM TCXO as frontend and combine it with an external A/D-converter via LAN, resolution >10 Bit, when read about the STEMLab125-14 (10 for 10 Bit, 14 for 14 Bit) former red pitaya, which works, from what ...

Re: Another DIY QFH question

Without seein all parts it is hard to give advice. Have compared the antennas reception of stronger signals, by replacing it with another working antenna e.g. dipole, groundplane to ensure that it works correctly? If there is no significant difference other than the gain difference, then check the c...

Re: Total beginner

No Problem the common use of the abreviation are RX Receiver Tx Transmitter TRx Transceiver ant Antenna The RADAR you referred to transmits continuously and uses electronical beam steering to move the antenna pattern to cover the parts where the signal is supposed to go, (manual steering would requi...

Re: New project idea!

You will receive not only the signals you want to receive but also often a lot stronger other signals e.g. Base stations which can interfere, cause desensitizing, blocking or intermodulation or …. Meaning the usual problems for a receiver that will stop you from receiving signal for one reason or an...

Re: Which upconverter to buy???

Do you want to built the converter yourself or a prebuilt converter. For both you can find information checking the HAM radio publications. In the SW bands especially around 7 MHz you will most likely have problems due to the large density of strong signals which can produce desensitization, blockin...

Re: Loop Antennas ????????????

Youre welcome. As a suggestion you may consider modifying your title to reflect what you want to use the Loop antenna for to allow others to identify if the information contained in this thread might be interesting to them or if they can contribute something as well e.g. Loop antenna for and then th...

Re: Total beginner

You havn't specified if you want to just receive the Radars signal or intend to receive reflections of the RADAR signal like moon meteor reflections or ... The antenna needed depends therefore on what you aim to receive, the strength of the polarization and strength of the signal at your location. I...
