Re: SDR for VLF/LF

You could try an upconverter for the RTL-SDR that works well at VLF: e.g http://www.rtl-sdr.com/comparing-ham-up ... converter/

Other than that there might be some conversion mods for radios like the SoftRock that let them work well at VLF.

Re: Some Frequencies Work Others Do Not

A screenshot would really help, if possible. But to me it sounds like you simply have the wrong demodulation mode selected. In the top of the SDR# menu under the Radio tab there is the mode selection buttons. For listening to broadcast FM radio you want "WFM", for voice and narrow FM modes you want ...

Re: rtl sdr error codes -1

Are you running on Linux? Did you unload the DVB-T drivers? rmmod dvb_usb_rtl28xxu or for a permanent solution, create a text file “rtlsdr.conf” in /etc/modprobe.d and add the line “blacklist dvb_usb_rtl28xxu”. Failing that, have you tested it on Windows or another PC? There is also the possibility ...

Re: Auto scan for cctv video signal

I don't think there's an easy way to automatically scan it. You could do a frequency sweep over a few hours with rtl_power, and look for signs of CCTV broadcasts.

Re: Tuner role in SDR mode [rtl2832u+r820t]

The SDR mode uses a different driver to the TV ones. So I think you set the debug mode in the TV drivers only. I'm unsure how to set the debug mode in the SDR drivers, but you might be able to look through the code on http://sdr.osmocom.org/trac/wiki/rtl-sdr.

Re: SDR for VLF/LF

You can just use your PC sound card to receive those VLF freqs: e.g. http://www.rtl-sdr.com/receiving-vlf-pc ... nna-saqrx/

Re: 2 Nooelec Dongles wont run same time

I assume you've set PDW up to listen to the different audio cables? Not sure what could be wrong, did you check the VAC settings for each cable and made sure that they're the same as the working one? Also, instead of two SDR#'s you could try the AUX VFO plugin if both pager freqs are near each other...

Can you post a screenshot of your settings etc when tuning to the stations that have no audio?

Re: AIS

What frequency is your coax collinear tuned to? If you made it for ADS-B at 1090 MHz, it might not work so well for AIS at 162 MHz, though it probably should be able to pick up your ships own AIS signal if it's broadcasting. Also, using manual gain instead of the AGC's will probably give you better ...

Re: A question about FM frequencies

This is pretty normal. It's usually because the broadcast FM stations in your area are so strong that they overload the device causing images of those signals to show up on other frequencies. You can get rid of them by using a cheap broadcast FM-trap to attenuate the strong FM signals. Something lik...
