Re: Suitable Low Noise Amplifier

Yes you can use that LNA. Though not much useful information is given about that one, in particular no noise figure measurement. But it should be good enough for most purposes anyway. Place it are close to the antenna as possible. It won't help that much if it's placed right next to the dongle when ...

Re: sharp sdr# does not show a devise in conroller box.

What driver do you see installed in device manager?

Does zadig run correctly and allow you to install the WinUSB drivers?

After running install-rtlsdr.bat do you see the file rtlsdr.dll in the SDR# folder?

What if you try another program like HDSDR, does that work?

Re: First signal

I don't really know much about radio astronomy, but i'm fairly certain that signal is a human generated signal. Natural signals usually aren't a nice strong single tone like this. It was probably some sort of beacon from a satellite, or maybe even a ground based beacon leaking in. Have a look at thi...

Re: SDR Audio Mentor Needed

Ah I misread your initial post, I thought not being a Linux weenie meant not wanting to use Linux. If Linux and starting it manually then yes it should be fairly easy. You can pipe the output of rtl_fm into sox, which will encode the file into an MP3. Have a look at the Network Streaming heading on ...

Re: SDR Audio Mentor Needed

I think the simplest solution would to use an Audio Recorder program with a scheduler like http://www.totalrecorder.com/MainFeatures.htm. Just set SDR# to continuously listen to your signal, and use the scheduler in total recorder to record to an MP3.

Re: Very strange "rake" issue

I think what you're seeing is the rolloff from the edges of the RTL-SDR bandwidth. When wide scanning like this you need to use the crop feature of rtl_power. Set the crop to something like 10-20% and the spectrum should look more flat. Either that or you're simply seeing noise. Try reducing the gai...

Re: sdr box

I'm not too familiar with that unit but it does seem to be a good option of HF - UHF operation.

Yes the SMA port is for the antenna. Have a look on his website for some clear photos of what each port is for as well as for what the switch does http://zao.jp/radio/soft66rtl/.

Re: Help with my first RTL-SDR setup

If you want to listen to HF frequencies then yes an upconverter is a good choice. I'd choose the Spyverter as 1) It seems to be the best on the market at the moment, and 2) It will future proof you against buying an Airspy in the future if you decide to upgrade. Direct sampling can give you good re...
