Re: SDR Sharp and Fldigi not talking

Hi Tim I just deleted an earlier reply to your post as it was no longer relevant. Since posting that I've managed to make progress on the decoding issue and you were right, it can be made to work without a VA cable. Also, I can listen to the signal at the same time which is the way I wanted it. You...

Question about this Mini-Whip

Sorry for the dumb question. I just bought this mini-whip kit to experiment with. As can be seen, the DC module has the two SMA sockets marked "LNA IN" and LNA OUT".

I'm guessing that "IN" goes to the antenna module and OUT to the SDR dongle. Have I got that right?

Re: SDR Sharp and Fldigi not talking

Hi Tim I must have tried every combination of settings I can think of but still haven't hit on what I'm missing or doing wrong. Right now, I'm totally confused but will take a break and try again. One respondent I talked to on another forum said I didn't need to use a virtual audio cable and that th...

Re: Test antenna

Thanks, Joe. Absolutely no need to apologise. Typos 'r' rus as they say. Thanks for the clarification about the RG-6. A question I asked on another forum but never got a reply to was if I use an active antenna on the end of a pole, I could mount the dongle just below it and then run say, an active U...

Re: Test antenna

Joe, I hope you don't mind me coming back to you on your post of Sunday 14th about coax. Something got a bit lost in translation. "I use the RG6 almost exclusively anymore. O don’t but it as it is just about every were .." Are you saying you DON'T use RG-6 anymore? Both the 12" whip antenna I got wi...

Re: Test antenna

Hi Joe Sorry for the slow response. I've no motivation to go for a HAM license. Maybe before the internet came along I might have but then I would have had to learn morse. My only interest is receiving. I hear what you say about the SDR dongles. For what they cost plus the free software, it's the wa...

Re: Home-brew USB, VFO tuning knob.

Thanks, Joe. So nice to have a VFO knob to turn and so easy to do. The only problem with it I realised afterwards was the rotational direction was wrong - clockwise = frequency down and vice versa. There's a tweak to the Windows registry that can reverse the direction of a mouse scroll wheel but thi...

Home-brew USB, VFO tuning knob.

I just finished this USB tuning knob today so here are a few photos. All it consists of is the guts of a $5/- mouse using just the scroll wheel encoder and a few other bits I had knocking about. Luckily, I had the big black plastic knob left over from an old piece of photographic kit. All that was n...

Re: Anyone tried one of these?

I said I would post some photos of my home-brew USB, VFO tuning knob. I've now completed this and posted some photos in the User Projects forum.
