I would like to replace the radio in my vehicle with a Pi and a SDR - From the short exposure to an SDR, you had to listen from another computer.

Is is possible to use the Pi and SDR to do this? The thought is to use the Pi as an receiver and MP3 player and other options ...

Yes if you're willing to code up a nice car interface.

Check out wavesink for Android. This pretty much has a nice interface for cars and also can receive DAB radio with the RTL-SDR.

A vehicle radio has lots of front-end filtering (band-pass for the broadcast spectrum of interest) and shielding (from vehicle generated RFI and power-bus noise). Adding all that to a rPi + RTL-SDR would likely be required to get a decent signal. A cheap FM tuner hat for the rPI might be another potential thing to try.
