Interesting Find ?????????

Post by P-40 Warhawk » Fri Jul 03, 2015 3:43 pm

I am using a direct sampling RTL-SDR dongle as you know that the tuner is bypassed . I also am using a MFJ- 1020 as the replacement turner more or less . I am also using a Mini-Circuits T16-6T RF transformer to bypass the tuner with . Well the dongle can't be all that sensitive , can it ????????????? I got a Radio Shack DX-394 HF radio to compare with dongle . I checked 394 out on the Internet the and receiver sensitive looked good and the write ups were also good . Well here the comes the big surprise I found that their was no difference in sensitive between the two . Has any body tested the direct sampling RTL-SDR dongle with any other ham radio receiver , I would like to hear back from you .

hi
I have a Tecsun PL-660 receiver and also http://www.ebay.com/itm/181622551656
I have a longwire antenna with a "100K-50MHz RTL-SDR Supporting long Antenna 9:1 Impedance Transformer Balun BNC" please see http://www.ebay.com/itm/171586523307

I must say I am really disappointed with RTL.SDR on HF (vhf and above is ok). When connected to same antenna and same frequency (NOT at the same time of course), reception is very very low on RTL. Lot of noise / QRN

Is there anyway that I can improve reception in HF range or any other similar product works well with HF range?

TIA
