Does it work on other computers, or just not your Lenovo?

Hello All:

RTL-SDR.com just sent me a new V3 Dongle and it works perfectly. May just be luck of the draw.

One thing you can try is downloading the Skywave Linux OS. Burn it to a DVD. It can also be put on a USB thumb drive but this may interfere with the Dongle's USB port.

It will run live from the DVD. It has all the drivers and should recognize you dongle. If it does see your dongle try using Gqrx in Apps under Ham.

Hope this helps.
Robert

That isn't necessarily the case. I've seen the "USB Device not recognized, a USB device connected to this computer has malfunctioned" with many different devices, especially those with storage related.

Sometimes rebooting the PC, sometimes reinstalling the drivers, other times using a a HUB or a different PC did clear up the problem. I'm not sure how much QC is done on the rtl-sdr v3 dongles and the 2 main chips that go into them, but I find it at least somewhat unlikely that such a major issue would not be caught before shipping.

some new motherboards uses a new USB3 only controller and such motherboards doesn't supported with old libusb. This bug was fixed in RC version of libraries. But it is still not available to download in binary format. You're need to get latest RC version of libusb source and compile your own rtlsdr.dll

You can use rtlsdr.dll which I placed to my custom ExtIO driver. This version of rtlsdr.dll works ok with a new USB3 motherboards. See this topic: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4710
