Audio problem

I have just set up my dongle and sdr I get the visual on display but very bad static with a commercial station in the back ground then it went really clear on the audio with text and then off again what am I doing wrong ?

You need to say what you are trying to receive, software antenna, gain setting.
I'm just guessing. RTL dongle, FM with RDS?
One problem for beginners is the gain setting. I find manual gain the best, experiment for the best setting.
