GEOS Software Question?

Posted: Tue Mar 23, 2021 3:38 pm
Hello; I have just ordered the Nooelec GOES Weather Satellite RTL-SDR Bundle which is said to contain all of the hardware that i need to get up and running and receiving GEOS satellite images...Where i am confused comes into play with the software that I need...Can someone recommend to me the exact programs that I need? I see articles about drivers, decoders, image processors and so on...I am using a Windows 10 system...I will really appreciate any assistance given! Thanks...

A simple Google for "Nooelec GOES Weather Satellite RTL-SDR Bundle" brings me quickly back to this site where there is a good tutorial.

Hello Again...How long can the feedline for a GEOS setup as pictured in the attached screen shot reasonably be before the signal is degraded too much? Thanks!

With the amplifier placed close to the antenna, using a reasonably low loss coax such as rg6. A very long way, several hundred foot. The amplifier gain will exceed the coaxial loss for at least that distance.
In a perfect world the amplifier would provide just enough gain to overcome loses, 0Db at the receiver.
Without an amplifier the signal will decay proportional to the loss in the coax.
Amplifiers are not always the solution.
