900-928 mhz Wireless Pool Controller?

Am trying to find out if anyone has tried to control a wireless pool controller that per FCC ID is using short range (less than 500 ft) 900-928 Mhz range transmissions. The controller is really old, so it is not the complex. It does have a unique id, per the documentation, that isolates communication from other like controllers, but I figure that is just a bit signature embedded in each signal. I have a SDR dongle, and just started learning how to capture signals. Figure it might be as simple as capturing signal samples and sending them to mimic the old remote control unit. If someone wants to teach a rookie how to do this would appreciate it.

Two ideas to get you started:

1) Find and record the signal with an RTL-SDR or other SDR. Retransmit the recording directly using RPiTX or a TX capable SDR. Downside is that the recording and retransmission may not be perfect so it could introduce problems.

2) Use Universal Radio Hacker to reverse engineer the signal, and create an Arduino based system using a 915 MHz transceiver add on. Needs a bit of learning if you're new, but once learned this is a useful skill. Search for "reverse engineering" on the rtl-sdr.com blog for many examples.
