First signal

On May 8, 2016 at 01:58 UT, I received this signal.

It was intermittent, it did not fade on and off, but changed abruptly.

Coordinates, taken from Stellarium, are:
RA 11 29 42
DEC -16 41 9

This is my first session with this setup, and my first signal.
First research indicates there is a gamma ray pulsar near those coordinates.

This was done with SDR#. I tried to use RTLBridge, but the signals weren't coming in.

I would appreciate any comments.

I don't really know much about radio astronomy, but i'm fairly certain that signal is a human generated signal. Natural signals usually aren't a nice strong single tone like this. It was probably some sort of beacon from a satellite, or maybe even a ground based beacon leaking in.

Have a look at this document ... ctionF.doc. There is a fair bit more post processing work involved than just using SDR# to be able to detect a pulsar. Basically it seems that he uses rtl_sdr to record the signal at the hydrogen line freq of 1420 MHz, and then uses a program called rapulsar to integrate the data and detect the pulsar rotation period. It also seems that there are only a few pulsars detectable by amateurs such as the Vela pulsar. EVen for that one they estimate that to detect the Vela puslar the smallest usable dish is 6 meters.
