Auto anti-drift calibration using pc clock or noah?

Post by jasontaylor7 » Wed May 28, 2014 5:30 pm

I'm a bit new to this but wanted to ask a few questions. About this drift issue, I know the ideal solution is to buy the $80 modded card from Japan. But you should be able to see the harmonics of the oscillator in an sdr. If they drift compared to the pc or usb bus clock, you should be able to automatically compensate. Moreover, you should be able to have the software automatically detect drift using any signal you pick, be it noah or whatever hd tv stations etc. signals that seem convenient. So why is drift and issue? And why is this guy from Japan making $$?

You can always use the software kalibrate to get an accurate PPM measurement from GSM signals. Problem is accuracy drifts as the dongle heats. Not sure if you could sync them with PC clocks, would be a good question to ask on the rtlsdr IRC channel (http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=##rtlsdr), lot's of devs on there.
