HF+VHF+UHF

Post by pluto7777 » Wed Sep 11, 2013 7:48 pm

I'm looking to buy a transceiver SDR in the future. It must work 100% with Linux. The FunCube looks great but it's only a receiver. Is there any technical reason why SDR's are either all HF or no HF at all? I realize you can use an upconverter, but it seems like such a messy solution.

The HackRF + hamitup upconverter is probably the best choice if you want all of HF+VHF+UHF for a decent price, though it's only half-duplex. I too wonder what the technical reasons are that make it hard to do HF and VHF+.

Yeah I've been keeping an eye on the HackRF. If you can transmit then immediately revert to receive, that would be ideal. The Ettus USRP B200 looks really nice too, but it's not cheap. I would even go for the bladerf but there are a massive amount of things in the 0-300MHz range. I wont be making a purchase until around the time the HackRF comes out anyway so I have plenty of time to sit and think on it.
