Advantages of 2Rx & 2TX channels

Post by tbourass » Wed Aug 23, 2017 1:49 pm

Hello everyone,

As i am planning on buying an USRP, mainly to perfom some reverse engineering on radio protocols, I found myself in front of two almost similar SDRs with one main diffrence:

- Ettus B200 which is a single channel full duplex SDR (cheaper)
- Ettus B210 wich is a dual channel full duplex SDR (more expensive)

I am looking for applications that needs two channels in order to work, and that can't be performed using only one channel, so as to see the real advantage of the dual channel.

Thanks for the help!

If you're just doing reverse engineering of radio protocols then one channel is enough.

You might want 2x2 if you're doing something say with GSM, and want to watch the downlink and uplink at the same time. Two channels is also good for trunking to listen to the control and voice channels at the same time, though a USRP is a bit overkill for that.

Maybe the B210 can also be used for coherent experiments (not sure if it's actually coherent though).
