Replacing the LNA/PA in the HackRF

Post by RChadwick » Tue Feb 13, 2018 7:06 am

Looking at the schematic, it appears the HackRF uses a MGA-81563 for the LNA and PA. As these appear to be EOL, and there appear to be many complaints about the RX performance of the HackRF, has anyone replaced these with something better? While I haven't yet looked closely at datasheets to check compatibility and pinout, looking through Digikey there appears to be a number of possibilities. If one was willing to accept reduced bandwidth, one could get an amp with better noise specs, and more gain. Was going to investigate further, but I hate reinventing the wheel.

Probably best to check with the HackRF team directly. They should probably know what they're going to replace that chip with in the future.

But I believe MGA-81563 is still available on digikey, so now might be a time to buy some spares.
