Powering a HackRF Portapack

I'm looking to put in a Li-Ion battery into my Portapack. I'm going to need a DC-DC Boost regulator to get the +5V, which is going to be noisy. How big of a deal is it? I see a switcher on the HackRF schematic, so maybe not so bad? I could go nutty, and feed 6V into a 7805, or go extra nutty with 5.5V in to a low-noise LDO regulator. I'd prefer to just pop some ceramic caps on the boost regulator with the least ripple and be done with it.

Has anyone done experiments to see if 5V power quality had an impact or RF performance?

Thanks!

Recently seen this guy do it on Twitter https://twitter.com/jLynx_DarkN3ss.

A DCDC regulator might add some noise, but probably not too big of a deal on VHF and above.

Thanks for the response. I saw that link, but the person had sparse details about the DC-DC. I suppose I'll go with the best DC-DC I have. Thanks!

That looks awesome! I pretty much just finished my version of this, with using the reset button to start up and shut down. Where is this version available? Is that a bigger display?
