RTL-SDR Blog Multipurpose Dipole Antenna Kit

Post by marno » Sat Oct 27, 2018 8:52 am

Can i use this antenna for my Baofeng UV-5R.
I think this is made for a receiver.
I will be transmitting on 433.750mhz.
Using the small antennas at full length are around the 1/4 wavelength length of 433.750mhz.
I did notice a resistor across the end of the coax where it terminates on the 2 dipoles.
Would this antenna be a good impedance match for my Baofeng UV-5R transceiver with the resistor terminated across the coax or should i remove the resistor.
Thanks in advance for any help

Technically, yes.

But it wouldn't work very well for many reasons.

To get it to work, I think you have to pull out the resister that is inside of the antenna casing, then either hold the coax connector to the one on the baofeng and make sure that the centre pin connects, or buy an adapter.

The resistor is designed for slow ESD dissipation, not impedance matching. So if you want to transmit i'd recommend cutting off the resistor. I think the coax cable would be okay for transmitting low power on a Baofeng, but not anything more powerful.

Thanks for the replies.
I will remove the resistor.
I will be using the antenna to transmit from Baofeng to trigger a beacon locator on my drone.
Then the beacon replies by transmitting it's gps location and a verbal signal strength that it received from the Baofeng.
Need the dipole to give me direction reception from beacon to help locate it.

What is the frequency range for the RTL-SDR Blog Multipurpose Dipole Antenna Kit? Can they do digital listening? What is the Receive Gain? Will only be using to receive.
