Only noise - Dexatek DK DVB-T Dongle (Rtl2832)

Post by msier » Wed Sep 03, 2014 9:59 am

Hi,
I am trying for some WBFM radio station which i know is working properly in my area (tried using normal radio reciever), but what I get is just random noise.
Here is test:
[email protected]:~$ sudo rtl_test -t
Found 1 device(s):
0: Realtek, Rtl2832UDVB, SN:

Using device 0: Dexatek DK DVB-T Dongle (Logilink VG0002A)
Found FCI 2580 tuner
Supported gain values (1): 0.0
Sampling at 2048000 S/s.
No E4000 tuner found, aborting.

And the command:
rtl_fm -M wbfm -f 98.1M -s 200000 -r 48000 | aplay -r 48k -f S16_LE

Could you please help me?

It looks like you have a relatively uncommon FCI 2580 tuner RTL-SDR dongle. The FCI 2580 doesn't appear to be very good with its frequency range stated as 146 - 308 MHz and 438 - 924 MHz (gap in between) on the official Osmocom site http://sdr.osmocom.org/trac/wiki/rtl-sdr

So the 98.1M you are trying to tune to is out of the range of your tuner. My advice would be to get an R820T RTL-SDR instead.
