Misery Installing Dongle Driver in Win7

Post by TrueBlue » Sun Jan 07, 2018 11:12 pm

I'm having a terrible time getting my generic RTL2832U dongle's driver installed to use with SDR# in any of three Win7 computers.

In two of them, the installation just fails after plugin and Win7 installs it as a...

USB Composite Device

...in Device Manager, where it shows it as working -- which after a fashion, it does. SDR# works with it, but the audio doesn't go and probably a few other problems that are driver-related.

When I run Zadig, it finds it as Bulk-In Interface, but doesn't show up as a RTL2832U device...so I'm stuck there.

In one computer, it does show up as a RTL2832U in Device Manager, but listed in a different category, not as a USB device, so Zadig is useless there, too.

This Zadig nonsense is really starting to get me down. Can't I just download the proper driver somewhere and install it normally?

If zadig isn't working properly you could try using this tool instead visualgdb.com/UsbDriverTool.

Basically install WinUSB to the dongle using that tool. For some people it works better than zadig.

I'm not sure if it applies to win 7, but try my trick here:
