Kernel driver vs. Osmocom userspace driver?

Post by dashawn » Wed May 01, 2019 8:32 pm

I’m a little confused about the driver situation on linux. It seems like the most used driver is the osmocom librtlsdr userspace driver, but there is also a native kernel module driver that creates a /dev/swradio device. http://blog.palosaari.fi/2014/02/linux- ... e.html?m=1

If I have a kernel with the native driver module, should I even need to install librtlsdr?

Many of the guides I’ve seen actually recommended blacklisting rtl2832_sdr.ko which seems really backwards to me. Is it like most applications don’t support the kernel driver or something?
