Raspberry Pi 3B vs 3B+

Post by GrouchoDuke » Fri Mar 15, 2019 7:15 pm

I got the shipping notice and I'm excited for my Kerberos to show up soon. I have several Raspberry Pi 3B units, but I don't have a B+. Is the extra speed (~15%) of the 3B+ required or is the 3B fine?

FWIW, the long Indiegogo tracking link for the kdsr guide in the Update #10 email didn't work for me. Here's the direct link: https://www.rtl-sdr.com/kerberossdr-quickstart-guide/

Cheers!

Well, a few weeks ago the quickstart guide was recommending the Tinkerboard instead of an RPi3/+ because the RPi didn't have enough horse power to drive it very well. I don't see that recommendation there any more but they are still pushing the Tinkerboard along with the RPi3. It would seem to be advisable to go with a Tinkerboard for the extra horsepower. Id rather have more capacity and not need it than the other way around.

A 3B should be okay, but the problem with the 3B is that is thermal throttles extremely quickly. If you add a heatsink and fan it will work a lot better.

Earlier on in the development the Pi3 wasn't fast enough, but we've optimized the code and it's fast enough now.

Hmm I checked the www.rtl-sdr.com/ksdr link and it seems to be working on my end. Did you get a 404, or some other error?

The www.rtl-sdr.com/ksdr url initially gave me a 404 but after several back and forth attempts somehow it forwarded to the url I posted..

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Good to know about the 3B vs 3B+. I have heatsinks & a fan already in the 3B I was hoping to use, so I'll try that first.

The link that wasn't working was this one (the actual link in the email - gives a 404):

These worked fine for me:

Thanks!

Thanks, I don't know why Indiegogo broke the link, must be a bug on their end...
