Can anyone recccomend an antenna ?

Post by DeepCoder » Thu Feb 11, 2021 9:12 pm

Hello :!:

I recently got this small antenna as i wanted to listen to ATC And Airplanes and track them but the antenna is really weak

I really want a good antenna to keep at my main station so i can do things from watching tv to listen to ATC And Airplanes and to listen to FM Radio :!:

If you do reccomend an antenna please make sure it can be made at home or the price it below $30 or £20 :!:

Thanks, Deep_Coder :!: :!: :!:

No one can answer your question if you do not provide the bare minimum of information e.g. specify your "small antenna" in relation to the frequency range you want to receive, is it (omni-) directional, where did you place it indoor, which floor, are the walls steel reinforced or outdoor, on ground or the roof ...

Just for my personal understanding, did you bother to read antenna related information and guidance for asking questions to improve chances for an answer viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4861 or just asked your Question?

No antenna can do what you request!

VHF-COM is worldwide allocated to 118 to 137 MHz, this includes ACAS and VDL 2.
You want an antenna to function at least between 88 to 800 MHz, since you want to receive also TV and TV-channel.
Any gain higher than that of a monopole having such a large bandwidth is not possible.

With simple means a 1/4 Lamda groundplane, one form of monopole, can be built like this download/file.php?id=295, the elements ~50 cm long, but it has of course a limited bandwidth. 88 to 800 MHz would a require e.g. a discone. While viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1516 was written for 960 to 1215 MHz, the same applies to 118 to 137 if the dimensions are adjusted for the increase in wavelength.
