Cannot Access RTL Device

Post by netwodau » Fri Dec 30, 2016 11:34 am

I have followed the instructions at http://www.rtl-sdr.com/rtl-sdr-quick-start-guide/ to install software for use with my new RTL_SDR Receiver R820T2. The rsdll.dll file as well as zadig.exe installed fine, and I am able to select RTL-SDR(USB) as the source in the SDR# program. However, if I hit the "Play" button nothing happens, except after about a minute, I get an error message stating "Cannot access RTL device".

If I click the configure icon, the Device is shown as Sweex DVB-T USB (2) (with other options Sweex DVB USB (0) and Generic RTL2832U OEM (1) not being selectable, and the RF Gain can also not be adjusted.

My desktop PC also has an internal Arcsoft Total Media DTV/FM/DAB PCI media card installed. Is this likely to be my problem?

I think there is something wrong with the driver installation of your dongle. maby you choose the wrong setting in Zadig. Double check first if you have select the right device in Zadig: Device USB\VID_0BDA and PID_2838 must be listed. If this is correct, start your Harware device manager, en see what happens if you run Zadig: For DVB-T TV applications, you see you your dongle in " Control for Audio, Video and Games", and AFTER run Zadig , your dongle is an extra USB Devive. Not in on BOTH folders !. Is this is not the case, you can not control the settings in RTL-SDR.

I Googled the Sweex DVB-T stick that you have, and it looks like it has a MXL5007T tuner.

I don't think this tuner is even supported by the RTL-SDR project.

Tuner is not supported. If that 's correct, you must have seen this in the Zadig install.

Something is wrong with your GNU Radio install, it's not seeing the osmosdr drivers:

built-in source types: file fcd rtl_tcp rfspace redpitaya

It should show RTL-SDR there if it's installed properly.

From what I see, you have two different versions of GNU Radio installed. You have 3.8, AND 3.7.11. That is probably the root cause of your issues.

I reinstalled GNU Radio. Same results. Built the bootable DVD. It doesn't work either. RTL_test works. gqrx fails. SDR# works.

Maybe try asking the devs or GNU Radio experts on the mailing list https://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss-gnuradio.

I'm fairly certain its a version issue with the double install. Sometimes even after uninstalling one version there are bits left over that mess with the install. Hopefully the experts on the mailing list can guide you into cleaning your install up.

These are the only 2832 rtl-sdr's in rules.d

# original RTL2832U vid/pid (hama nano, for example)
SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0bda", ATTRS{idProduct}=="2832", MODE:="0666"

# RTL2832U OEM vid/pid, e.g. ezcap EzTV668 (E4000), Newsky TV28T (E4000/R820T) etc.
SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0bda", ATTRS{idProduct}=="2838", MODE:="0666"

Does this match your dongle?
