Advice needed

Post by peechangfr » Wed Dec 13, 2017 4:45 am

Hello,
I ve discovered the rtl-sdr just a couple years ago.I would like to move from a cheap dongle to a more pro one and of course as there are a lot of models on the market, I would like to get some advice.
Mainly the rtl sdr is used for weather satellites APT, HRPT but also to listen to frequencies. It is plugged in a specially dedicated computers which is in charge of all the decoding of my weather pics. processor is an i3 and has 8 gb RAM, still a good computer.
Any hints will be appreciated
Have a nice day

If the RTL-SDR is working fine for you then I don't see any need to upgrade. Focus on antennas and filtering first, and maybe an LNA. These will give you the most improvement.

For the higher end, yet still low price receivers you're looking at the SDRplay, Airspy R2/Mini or Airspy HF+.

OK I think I have one of the best commercial QFH antenna on the market and I ADDED A lna as I share my antenna between my NOAA receiving station and my rtl sdr.
