RTL-SDR for Sigfox?

Post by frowdow » Wed Jan 17, 2018 6:35 am

I am a newbie to the RF world in general. I want to be able to use RTL-SDR to detect and decode Sifox signals from a Sigfox module. Sigfox transmits in UNB between 868 and 868.2 MHz using FSK. And the data rate is just 100-600bps. Can I use RTL-SDR to continuously scan the above range of frequencies at a fast enough rate so to be able to decode the transmitted signals? I would be grateful for any pointers which will give grated clarity on this,

Kind Regards,

You can probably receive it just fine, but not sure how developed decoders are for it. You may need to play around in GNU Radio and/or develop you're own decoder. Here are some links that I found.

The last tool says it can decode Sigfox, and it runs in GNU Radio.

In addition to the SDR display program (I use SDR#), you would need an FSK decoding program (I use FLDigi which works for decoding amateur radio FSK modes). It is easy to use piping to route the audio from the display program to the decoding program. You just need to find a decoding program for the particular style of FSK that you are wanting to decode.
