HDSDR and SDRSharp cannot find RTL2832 USB

Post by smbunn » Wed Aug 01, 2018 1:26 am

have followd the installation instructions for both SDRSharp and HDSDR. My RTL2832 USB device is seen by zadig and I see exactly the right driver name being replaced by WinUSB.
But when I launch SDRSHarp it says "no device found" and when I launch HDSDR it says "No RTLSDR devcies found" in the "EXT IO" start up dialogue.

If I look at Device Manager I see a USB device called Bulk In Interface (Interface 0) and clicking on this and bringing up driver details gives me three entries with WinUSB first, then WdfCoInstaller01011.dll next and WinUSBCoInstaller2.dll last.

So looks OK, but not actually found by any of the SDR software. I have uninstalled and re-installed hardware, deleted and reloaded drivers, run thru the instructions from a cleaned machine 3 times, each time zadig finds the device, says driver installed successfully but still cannot use it with SDRSharp of HDSDR.

Help please

With SDRSharp did you remember to run install-rtlsdr.bat?

What ExtIO are you using with HDSDR?

At one point in getting my V3 working with SDR#, Windows 10 asked for my permission to allow SDR# to receive the data stream from the V3 dongle.

The batch file ran fine. rtlsdr.dll is present and the folder is read/write.
I ran

Code: Select all

rtl_test -t
and it reported 'no devices found" as well

Running under Windows 7 Ultimate

Ran Zadig as administrator, it found my device as RTL2838UHIDIR"
Is this actually the InfraRed remote driver for the DVB-T dongle? The USB ID under Zadig is "0BDA 2838"

ExtIO_RTL2832.dll is in my ProgramFiles(x86) HDSR folder.
I checked the release notes and it says "Version 2.76a (March 17, 2018)"

0BDA 2838 is the correct ID for the RTL-SDR. If WinUSB is installed it should be fine.

In zadig try unchecking "Ignore Hubs or UBS composites" and see if any other RTL2832U like entries show up as Composite parent.

Also make sure that you haven't installed WinUSB to bulk interface 1 by mistake, if that shows up.

Try on other USB ports too, and eliminate USB cables/hubs from the chain. If possible test on another PC too to confirm that the dongle isn't faulty.

I moved the dongle to one of the rear USB ports and it worked straight away. Seems to be very USB port dependent

Ah yes. Some computers have really low quality USB hardware that can't handle high data rate devices. This is especially the case with USB ports that are extended to the front of the PC. The ports on the rear are directly mounted to the motherboard.
