1) put everythink on default settings
2) search on google for your local weather channel from the next Airport.
for example Depature/ Arrival Information the transmit 24/7 an Automatic Audio Broadcast.
If you not have any try an Amateur Radio Repeater.

3) klick on the gear and a popo up with "rtl-sdr controller" show
un the bottom you see frecency correction.

4) if you have 2) enter the freq. of the channel and with up or down from the freq cor. callibrate your donge.
when you power it up wait 5 - 10 minutes until your dongle get worm.
All the guides I have seen say that the local oscillator offset which is printed on the upconverter needs to be put into the box next to the Shift radio button.

I have input the frequency the of my local airports arrival/departure channel. It is an international and domestic airport. I don't see any traffic. The only time I ever hear traffic is on WFM and AM commercial radio stations.

to get the Airport Weather channel your setup should be:
Antenna -> LNA -> SDR Dongle -> USB Cable
(sure short antenna cable if required)

Where are you from?

Australia.

What is LNA? You mean a Low Noise Adapter? I am presuming that is the upconverter. The kit came with the dongle and the upconverter, a little antenna and relevant connectors. All I have done is changed the 10cm antenna to the Discone.

Yes

Maybe the have some build in. Which one do you use?
But you have to remove it when you want Receive anyhing above 30Mhz!!!!!
That mean you have no LNA at the moment...

Can you solder and or have a powersupply? If not search on ebay for "USB LNA" and select sort: lowest price + shipping
If you order from china the declaire it as gift and 5$ Value so you dont pay custom fees.

There is an Austrilan Guy who have there own youtube channel. The created a Forum: www.eevblog.com/forum/ maybe some Austrians there could help you with local LNA products. (Please note in the most case its cheaper to order directly from China!)

NooElec NESDR Mini 2 and their Ham It Up upconverter. I am thinking its what you are talking about. The upconverter has a switch to pass through or upconvert. Its exttremly common and my hardware setup is as per many I have seen on YouTube.

The upconverter has a power supply, its powered by USB.

ok when i look on the Schematic on there website when you switch to "Pass trouth" the Signal goes directly from RF Input to the RF Output so no LNA between. :D

So you need an separated LNA!!!
If you would receive anything above 30Mhz:
a) remove the Upconverter
b) buy an LNA
c) deselect "Shift" in the SDR Software and set the Freq Correction. (the most new dongle have just 1 - 5 ppm shift but the cheap have 50 - 100ppm shift)

congluseo: The Antenna have 0db gain, the "Upconverter" have 0db gain when you bypass the Signal and the Donlge have also 0db gain.
Everythinkt between the Antenna and your Dongle make -db gain. That mean you are screwed up at the moment. You cold receive only very strong Signals like Radio.

the dongle is ok but not the best quality.
Go on ebay: http://stores.ebay.de/NooElec
And search for: NESDR SMArt some are with "metal case" and some with "alu case". I have "both" but i cant say what the different is between.
If you want buy a special search for: NESDR SMArt // E4000
The E4000 are better for higher freq.

I use the "RTL-SDR Blog V3" Dongle he is silver and allow to send power to an LNA who is very nice.
I dont know if is there an official ebay shop.
