Using upconverter with Raspberry 3 command line

Post by chrispercol » Tue Dec 05, 2017 9:59 pm

Hi,

I have a new Raspberry Pi 3, Realtek SDR dongle and NOELEC Ham It Up 1.3 upconverter.

I'd really like to receive USB on the command line. I'm making good progress with rtl_fm and sox but can't figure out how to include the upconverter 125Mhz offset.

Does anyone know how to achieve this with rtl_fm or have another command line alternative?

Ta,

Chris

I don't think there is the ability to set an upconverter offset with a flag.

You just need to tune directly to the unconverted frequency and do the maths in your head.

E.g. to tune to 6 MHz, with the upconverter you just need to tune the RTL-SDR to 125 MHz + 6 MHz = 131 MHz.

Thanks,

That's useful to know about adding 125Mhz. I think I was a bit tripped up by normally doing -125Mhz on Gqrx. I guess that's just for display purposes.

I was also testing this new setup over VNC to my Raspberry Pi as the shack is too cold at the moment :-)

Cheers again,

Chris
