Post by imranrajjad » Tue Jan 09, 2018 8:25 am

Hello,

my first post here, I am unable to get gr-gsm, kalibrate-sdr and rtl_test tools to work with an SDR dongle on Ubuntu 16.4 LTS running as a VM in VMWare.

on running the rtl_test

Code: Select all

Found 1 device(s):
  0:  Realtek, RTL2838UHIDIR, SN: 00000001

Using device 0: Generic RTL2832U OEM
No supported tuner found
Enabled direct sampling mode, input 1
Supported gain values (1): 0.0
Sampling at 2048000 S/s.
No E4000 tuner found, aborting.

strangely with another dongle I get this

Code: Select all

Found 1 device(s):
  0:  Realtek, RTL2838UHIDIR, SN: 00000001

Using device 0: Generic RTL2832U OEM
Found Rafael Micro R820T tuner
Supported gain values (29): 0.0 0.9 1.4 2.7 3.7 7.7 8.7 12.5 14.4 15.7 16.6 19.7 20.7 22.9 25.4 28.0 29.7 32.8 33.8 36.4 37.2 38.6 40.2 42.1 43.4 43.9 44.5 48.0 49.6
[R82XX] PLL not locked!
Sampling at 2048000 S/s.
No E4000 tuner found, aborting.
and it is working with kalibrate-sdr and gr-gsm.

I even tried installing all the drivers again from this link

https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2035623

but to no avail.Strangle it works in Windows (host system). After a bit of googling around the tuner of this dongle is FC0012 and the vendor is EzCAP

thanks
Imran

Are they both FC0012 dongles?

Probably the first one is just faulty if the tuner isn't being recognized.

well today the tuner got detected and everything started working until I briefly unplugged it :oops:

The Tuner gets detected on the host system running Windows10. I am able to view data in SdrSharp but when I turn to my Ubuntu VM, the tuner does not get detected.

and NO, they are not the same, both dongles have different spectrum and different tuners, one is using Rafael and other is using FitiPower

Perhaps the newer versions of the drivers don't support the FC0012 properly anymore. You might try Keenerds driver or other older drivers.

The FC0012 is not popular and barely used because it is not very good.

Interesting, you mean the FC0012 working better on VHF? What are differences?

I received more Packed on ACARS. Sure there are many settings who can be adjusted like gain and other thinks but in general the Dongle received more. Maybe its is an FC0013?
