Unfortunately, I believe I have stupidly bought a counterfeit RTL-SDR dongle.

It was on Ebay.co.uk advertised as RTL-SDR.com V3, but when I look at the printing on the front side it is marked RTL.SDR and there is no printing on the reverse, unlike the ones pictured on this site.

I started thinking about its authenticity when it performed so very badly on HF and does not respond to the bias t string in GQRX. There is no voltage on the antenna pin when I enter the correct string in the GQRX set up window.

It does receive, but is at least 12db to 15db down on my other receiver.

The command RTL-test in linux returns that it has an R820T tuner rather than the correct R820T2 tuner in the authentic dongle.

I have notified the seller whose first offer was to offer 30% discount on this piece of junk! I have just told him I want all the money back or I will report him to ebay.

I haven't opened it up since the seller may ask for it to be returned. I don't want to give any grounds for refusal to accept it back, though I am satisfied that it is a fake item.

Do you look up what postage to china cost?
Its cheaper to put them into a recylink center than send them back.

Image doesn't seem to work, but yeah if it's marked as RTL.SDR with the dot in the middle it's not one of ours. If they tried to advertise it as one of our units, then if I were you I'd open a dispute on eBay and try to get a refund.

Yes, it certainly was advertised as one of yours, so unless he voluntarily refunds the whole cost, I will open a dispute. It is an open and shut case of misrepresentation. He advertised it specifically as RTL-SDR Blog V3 etc. and sent me a counterfeit thing marked RTL.SDR that has no bias t voltage with the correct arguments in the GQRX and it is as deaf as a post. It only receives massive signals on HF and only shows up very low signal levels on those in wspr.

Thanks for confirming the printing is definitely not yours.

Good luck with your dispute, though I would look into the cost of return shipping first.

There are a few things that you may not want to buy from China such as SD cards, USB flash drives, and rtl-sdr blog v3 software defined radios.

Here are a few fakes I could find -- some not even try to look like a real one:

We own the Trademark "RTL-SDR Blog" so have been taking these fake ones down with TM infringement claims, but they just keep coming back faster than we can report them. Also eBay can't take them down if they're not selling on the US platform (even though US buyers can view items from other country platforms), because we don't own the trademark in every single country out there. If you want our dongles, best to buy directly or from links on www.rtl-sdr.com/store.

I found this schematic and want to replace all elements in order to fix it.
Now, looking for smd inductors...

Does anyone knows component values of original filter?
The values are on the schematics -- what do you mean about "component values of original filter" ?

Here's a filter (with exact values) that is almost identical to what you've posted with the exception of 2 inductors -- 24 nH vs 22 nH), and the 8 pF vs 8.2 pF caps but the latter is really minor.

He meant the original filter RTL-SDR.COM, but component values are trade secret, of course.
The F1JKY schematic and your schematic are not ideal; they do not work well at the edges of the range.
