PLL Not Locked! error? No Demo software functions.

Post by N8RDF » Fri Mar 22, 2019 9:02 pm

I have a new Pi 3B+ (I'm new to PI/linux) with the recommended KSDR image loaded. The Pi boots and runs the Demo software fine, but I get no graph response from the Start/Stop Processing button in any of the Demo tab functions. I tried rtl_test as described in the startup guide. It recognizes the 4 devices (all same serial number?), but I get a "PLL not locked!" message per below:

raspberrypi:~ $ rtl_test -d 0
Found 4 device(s):
0: Generic, RTL2832U, SN: 77771111153705700
1: Generic, RTL2832U, SN: 77771111153705700
2: Generic, RTL2832U, SN: 77771111153705700
3: Generic, RTL2832U, SN: 77771111153705700

Using device 0: Generic RTL2832U
Supported gain values (29): 0.0 0.9 1.4 2.7 3.7 7.7 8.7 12.5 14.4 15.7 16.6 19.7 20.7 22.9 25.4 28.0 29.7 32.8 33.8 36.4 37.2 38.6 40.2 42.1 43.4 43.9 44.5 48.0 49.6
[R82XX] PLL not locked!
Sampling at 2048000 S/s.

Info: This tool will continuously read from the device, and report if
samples get lost. If you observe no further output, everything is fine.

Reading samples in async mode...
^CSignal caught, exiting!

User cancel, exiting...
Samples per million lost (minimum): 0

Did I need to execute any of the steps in the "Installing the software on a PC / Other SBC" section of the guide? The (1) white and (4) LEDs inside the KSDR are illuminated. I have a separate supply on the USB-C port and heatsinks and a fan on my pi.

any suggestions?
Thanks!

PLL not locked is fine, not an error to worry about. rtl_test indicates that RTL-SDR 0 is working fine, but you should also test -d 1, -d2, and -d3 just in case.

When you booted the Pi, did you have the KerberosSDR plugged in and powered up? Plug in the KerberosSDR before starting the Pi.

If you plug it in after, close the demo software, then browse to the ~/kerberossdr folder, and use the command ./run.sh to restart the program.

Once you click start you should see an update rate being shown, which will indicate that the software is seeing and reading the 4x RTL-SDRs.

My bad! I thought I tried that already, but it's up now. Thanks for the quick reply :D
