cb transfer status: 5, canceling

Post by twintriode » Tue Apr 23, 2019 12:31 am

Started with a new Ubuntu 16.04 installation on a Core i7 Dell laptop.
All software installed in accordance with KerberosSDR Quickstart Guide instructions.
Only DIP switch 1 is turned on.
DIP switches 2-3-4 are off.
Good quality cables connected to microUSB and USB-C ports.
Getting an error on rtl_test after about 5 seconds.

How are you powering the usb c cable? Sounds like power issue for me

Do you have any other RTL-SDR dongles that run on the machine?

I've seen others post about this error on Reddit, GitHub etc, and it seems to be something to do with the USB port hardware not functioning correctly. Some people had success when disconnecting other USB devices plugged into the PC. Another had to reseat his USB hardware. Can you try another USB port too?

It could also be a power issue. What are you using to power the KerberosSDR?

perhaps try running rtl_test at a lower RTLSDR sampling rate?
-->> [-s samplerate (default: 2048000 Hz)]

I am using the USB-C port on my laptop.
How much power does this thing need?
5W? 10W? 30W?
I'll get some some USB-C wall chargers to try out.

The Kerberos Quick-Start guide says: "A single USB 3.0 port on a computer that can handle up to 3A is enough to power the device from one high quality USB cable."

I have one PC (a laptop with USB-C ports) that is capable of powering and running the KerberosSDR with just the microUSB and a high quality SHORT cable. But most other PCs I have don't seem to put out enough power.

You will need a separate power supply if you're PC USB ports can't put out enough power. Even with two cables, the overall power output from your PC might be restricted among all the ports.
