Absolute FFT Beginner Project

Post by alemages » Mon Aug 26, 2019 9:04 pm

Hello all. As the title says I am an absolute beginner when it comes to DSP. I purchased a RTL2832u(?) with the hopes to learning how IQ FFT and how to translate the data to a freq vs amp type view in a Python program.

All the documentation I find is so headsy that I can't quite figure out what I actually need to make my own display. The I/Q data, sample rate, sample bins, resolution, I'm having a hard time connecting the dots on how they relate. Does anything have any good practical material I can read to understand how this giant puzzle goes together?

Thanks!

There are pointers to SDR DSP tutorials right on this site:
https://www.rtl-sdr.com/tag/digital-signal-processing/

Plus more tutorials online, with source code, such as:
https://www.g0kla.com/sdr/index.php

The ARRL also has pointers to some resources:
http://www.arrl.org/software-defined-radio
Here's one QEX article that says it "minimizes" the math:

I'm really surprised to see your interest. Really, I can't think that you are a beginner. Stay tuned you can do something good. I'm a web programmer. I have almost 2 years of experience working with Python. If you need any help then let me know.
