Hermes-Lite 2.0 Group Buy Open

Post by softerhardware » Mon Sep 09, 2019 4:03 am

Hi Group,

The Hermes-Lite 2.0 low-cost open-source software-defined direct down/up conversion 160-10M QRP amateur radio transceiver is now available for a limited time directly from Makerfabs. See the group buy wiki page for more details.

The Hermes-Lite 2.0 is based on an inexpensive cable model chip that has been repurposed to be a amateur radio transceiver.

I purchased one of the Hermes Lite 2 build 9 boards from Makerfabs during the group buy. The board arrived in early November. It came with preassembled with the FPGA already programmed, so all I had to do was find a case for it.

I'm writing an rtl_tcp "work-alike" server for the Hermes Lite 2 so I can use it will any rtl_tcp compatible SDR apps (Android, iOS, and macOS) that support compatible sample rates (48k and 192k currently). I'm calling this new server hl2_tcp (to match the names rtl_tcp, rsp_tcp and hfp_tcp for the RTL-SDR, SDRPlay and Airspy HF+, respectively). If/when I finish, the C code should build and run on macOS and Linux (Raspberry Pi),

Here's a screenshot of my macOS rtl_tcp SDR app viewing the 20M HF band with the Hermes Lite 2 via an early alpha test version of hl2_tcp:

The macOS app is available from the Mac App Store, and currently already supports rtl_tcp for the RTL-SDR.
