RTL SDR v3 + Spyserver + Raspberry PI 4 Installation

Post by Master_sister » Mon Nov 04, 2019 2:38 pm

Good morning all,

I want to install a spyserver with an RTL SDR v3 dongle on a Raspberry 4.

I do not know anything about programming and I start with the Raspberry.

Is there a very simple tutorial?

The Raspberry will simply serve as an H24 server with the RTL SDR key.

Thanks for your help.

Thank you.

I found the video for the installation of the RTL key but I have an error when I do the test (rtl_test -t):

Found 1 device (s):
0: Realtek, RTL2838UHIDIR, SN: 00000001

Device Usage 0: Generic OEM RTL2832U

The kernel driver is active or the device is claimed by the second instance of librtlsdr.
In the first case, please detach or blacklist the kernel module.
(dvb_usb_rtl28xxu), or enable auto detach at compile time.

usb_claim_interface error -6
Failed to open device rtlsdr # 0.

Someone would have any idea ?

Thank you.

Have you blacklisted the DVB-T drivers?

From https://www.rtl-sdr.com/tag/install-guide/:
After installing the libraries you will likely need to unload the DVB-T drivers, which Linux uses by default. To unload them temporarily type "sudo rmmod dvb_usb_rtl28xxu" into terminal. This solution is only temporary as when you replug the dongle or restart the PC, the DVB-T drivers will be reloaded. For a permanent solution, create a text file "rtlsdr.conf" in /etc/modprobe.d and add the line "blacklist dvb_usb_rtl28xxu". You can use the one line command shown below to automatically write and create this file.

echo 'blacklist dvb_usb_rtl28xxu' | sudo tee --append /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-dvb_usb_rtl28xxu.conf

Thank you K3RLD,

My RTL key is well detected.

I installed Spyserver and I have a new problem :

When I run ./spyserver I have this :

pi @ raspberrypi: ~ / spyserver $ ./spyserver

Reading the configuration file: spyserver.config
Listening for connections on ***.***.*.**:5555 (IP address of Raspberry)
Found Rafael Micro R820T tuner
[R82XX] PLL not locked!

I managed to connect to my RTL-SDR under Raspberry with SharpSDR which is running Windows 7.

Accepted client ***.***.*.**:51195 running SDR# v1.0.0.1731 on Microsoft Windows NT 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1
Device was sleeping. Wake up!
Found Rafael Micro R820T tuner
Exact sample rate is: 2500000.107620 Hz
[R82XX] PLL not locked!
Acquired an RTL-SDR device

When I look on https://airspy.com/directory/# my RTL-SDR key is not connected to the rest of the world.

Should I open a port 5555 on my router ?

The problem below is the same problem I'm having now. From the next message after this one, it looks like your device was "sleeping." How did you get it to wake up? I am getting the same error message as below, only it is not even filling in my IP address, it just says "Listening for connections on 0.0.0.0:5555/ Found Rafael Micro R820T tuner/ [R82XX] PLL not locked...." I'm using Raspberry Pi 4 with GQRX and the RTL-SDR, trying to start up the airspy upverter but not getting a configuration window. Can someone explain what the problem is? Thanks.
