Can one talk to the dead? A dead dongle, of course

Post by Brshk1 » Mon Feb 10, 2020 1:14 pm

Hi. This is my first post here.

After following the blog for some years, having purchased an RTL-SDR v3 dongle and extracted all the bang for my bucks from it, it seems to have finally died.

The computers do not longer recognize it, and I see usb_claim_interface errors on Linux, where it had been working previously. Before we make a happy funeral for it, I wanted to ask whether it is possible to try and access the functionality via the internal expansion headers that are available. Just in case it is only the USB logic the one that is broken down.

Thanks a lot.

If it's dead then it's probably the USB silicon hardware on the chip itself that died. After investigating failed dongles over the years, most failures are simply due to the RTL chip going bad, rather than some soldering issue.

We of course do provide warranty on all dongles, so please just contact us for a replacement at [email protected]. Please include your order ID number, and if purchased on Amazon, a shipping address.
