RTL-SDR Receiver Crashing on Raspberry Pi

Post by KD2SON » Sat Mar 21, 2020 8:14 pm

Hello, RTL-SDR Community:

I am currently working on setting up my RTL-SDR Blog v3 dongle to work with a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, currently running the latest version of Kali Linux. I followed the step-by-step guide found at https://ranous.files.wordpress.com/2018 ... tv2-18.pdf, but any SDR software I try just crashes whenever I tell it to start receiving. For both GQRX and the RTL_Test utility (see attached screenshot), it crashes right after printing "Allocating 15 zero-copy buffers."

Any insight as to how I can correct this issue and get my receiver working would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Chris Dix

Things look proper, documentation looks good. Haven't used Kali before.

Just 2 off the wall ideas.

Do you really have to be root?
try using the rtl dongle on a powered hub.
