FM radio is distorted

Post by luca_t » Mon Apr 06, 2020 8:47 am

I am using an RTL-SDR dongle with the included dipole antenna mounted vertically, however, when I tried to listen to some local FM radio stations on a clean SDRSharp installation, the audio was heavily distorted. Could this be a hardware failure, or is there something else I could have done wrong?

I do believe the problem is an indication for a configuration error.
A screen shot of you App settings would have been nice.
WBFM 192k bw and 50% gain for starters..

most of all, these are is distortions due to high gain. Try to reduce RF gain on RTL settings window.

I recommend to disable auto gain and use manual gain tune, it will give you much better result.

Upload a screenshot of your settings. It's very unlikely to be a HW failure. The HW only provides the raw data, the software handles everything else.
