Randomly recieving only noise at times

Post by fgsfds » Wed Jun 03, 2020 8:12 pm

Getting accustomed to SDR things. While trying out the new RTL SDR v3 dongle to listen to DSD stuff, i often encounter the thing you see on the following screens: for seemingly random periods of time, most to all kind of signals get overwhelmed by what seems to be noise. Not sure if that happens everywhere, but i at least see it covering everything from 100 to 160+ Mhz. At exactly the same time, i am still able to listen to FM with no visible issues via some other hardware, such as built-in mobil phone FM reciever etc. Any ideas what might be causing this?

There appears to be a very strong intermittant signal interfereing there. Possible a pager. When that strong signal transits it overloads the SDR causing the lowered reception.

Tune around the spectrum and see if you can find it. Then you can build a bandstop filter to reduce it's power.
