Renaming Dongle

Post by JYP » Sun Feb 28, 2016 10:15 pm

Can anyone help me out in renaming my RTL-SDR dongle.
I recently purchased two RTL-SDR dongle and want to use them on the same PC, but since they both have the same "Name" it's causing problems, so I would like to rename them.
I have looked for an answer, but the only thing I found was something called "rtl_eeprom".
I would really like to use it, but I have no clue on how to use it...
I DL a file "rtl_eeprom.1.gz" and extracted it, but the only thing inside is a note file...

Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Thank you

What program are you using them with? Most programs will allow you to specify a device flag, so that you can choose the dongle. If you do need to change the device string then:

Download the official rtl_eeprom from the Windows RTL-SDR driver and tools download on http://sdr.osmocom.org/trac/wiki/rtl-sdr (link is called pre-built Windows version), then use the instructions here http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/tru ... rom.1.html.

Be careful to not interrupt the EEPROM flashing or you could brick the dongle. Also don't use the -w flag, there's no reason to as this could also brick the dongle.

I can confirm that this works for using two dongles with different drivers. Just change the serial number - nothing else.
