Dragonfly RX-666

This SDR has been getting some attention on other forums in the last couple of weeks. Looks interesting if it works as well as other 16 bit SDRs and the price makes it a game changer in the SDR market.

Software support is patchy at best with modified versions of HDSDR and SDR Sharper and most threads about it seem to get derailed around ethics and politics but there's little hard information on the technical ability of the unit itself.

It appears to be based on the open source project BB103 from Oscar IK1XPV so I will also link to his blog.

There is no FPGA, so it cannot perform digital down sampling. So, it requires to get full ADC bandwidth stream on PC, it needs very high performance PC in order to process such stream.

Also it uses usual Chinese TCXO oscillator (like ROJON) which phase noise is not good enough for 16-bit ADC (it requires ultra-low phase noise oscillator), so you won't be able to use 16-bit advantage.

I think the real expected dynamic range will be about 60 dB (fair 10-12 bit performance). You can replace osclillator with ultra-low phase nosie and it may improve dynamic range. But it cost additional money (about 30-40 USD) and problem with high PC performance cannot be fixed.

Be careful when ordering this too. I ordered a unit to review from Aliexpress, but they couriered me a pack of two button cell batteries instead LOL...someone else in the reviews section mentioned they received two wires instead of the SDR too.

Aliexpress refunded it via their disputes process luckily, but only after a lot of time and work taking photos of everything.

Das anyone receive unit?
Where or from what seller did you order?
Anyone test it?
What type PC used a i5 or i7 or type AMD, CPU benchmark below 4000 or how high?
USB 3.0 or 3.1?
