rtlsdr.dll blog mod - how can I recognize from "standard"?

Post by iu1mrd » Thu Sep 17, 2020 7:18 am

Running sdr# (meaning inside sdr# GUI) is there a way to tell if I'm using the rtlsdr.dll "standard" or the "rtlsdrblog mod" one?
If the answers is no, maybe rtlsdrblog-mod developer may consider this little enhancement (if feasible)?
(It seems to me there are no visible difference on the parameter panel...)
By the way: other dll mod have totally different parameter GUI, they are easily recognized...
Thanks in advance.

No way to know, other than try flipping the bias tee and checking for voltage.

We made the dll so it's a drop in replacement with the current interface. Otherwise you'd need another controller interface which could break over time as SDR# updates.

Thank you.
So I must invent one...
I have found this "raw" solution: with a text editor I opened the rtlsdrblog dll,
located "Generic RTL2832U" and "Generic RTL2832U OEM" and changed the string "Generic" to "Blog101"
Now when I open in sdr# the device controller I see:

But this does not read the dongle.
Therefore any dongle would show "Blog"?
It was possible to edit the dongle's EEPROM then some SDR software's DLL would read that unique Product/Serial number.

Thank you for reading and contributing to this post.

I try to describe the "background".
I'm an SDR# user from many years.
Some years ago I decided to have more than one sdr# folder just to use/compare different "set-up".
So I have (e.g.)
c:\sdr#_A (let say an sdr# install with standard rtl-sdr controller )
c:\sdr#_B (let say an sdr# install with rtl-sdr-blog v1.01 rtl-sdr controller )
So my problem was not related to "what dongle is working now?" (another annoying problem...(*) )
it is "what driver I'm using now?"
This raw solution is good enough for me. It's not dynamic nor automatic... just a basic solution.
73, stay safe, be careful...

(*) I googled a lot for this problem and found no practical solution... any help welcome...

My notes and a link to the Software https://sites.google.com/site/g4zfqradi ... i=1#Eeprom As noted anyone who uses this does it at their own risk!
And I do not know how it works with software other than HDSDR.
